Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet shirts were worn as “A Technicolor Promise” evolved into a colorful human rainbow when everyone took their places during the musical finale. Throughout the musical, our storytellers illustrated the story of Noah as the singers sang about the chronological events before, during and after life on the ark. Choreographed actions helped portray the words of the songs as well as when the singers wore their animal visor. A wooden ark, along with scenery, helped us to envision everyone on the ark. The painted rainbow backdrop reminded us about God’s covenant with us. He would never again destroy the earth, but fill our universe with love for all the human race. Whenever we see the rainbow in the sky, let us give thanks always, because God is Love. This year, our VBS was held at the East Hanover Township Park, July 24-28. We used the building as well as the pavilion and outside area. As the children arrived they played a game or helped to put the Noah’s Ark puzzle together before listening to the story. Besides learning the songs for the musical, the children participated in crafts, games and science. Janet Klos organized the crafts. The children enjoyed painting a rainbow scene on their plastic container, making a rainbow bookmark, a Noah puppet/plant stick, and a rainbow reminder. Lily Klos kept the children busy with games such as octopus tag, hide& seek animals, animal charades and kickball. Sarah Hostetter set-up several science experiments for the children to do. Curiosity arose as they dipped different types of paper into colored water or placed skittles into water and watched what happened. This year, we collected supplies to send to Lutheran Social Services in Saint Paul, MN for use at Camp Noah. Camp Noah is a week-long day camp for children 1st-6th grade that have experienced disaster. The curriculum is very intentional in terms of providing children the opportunity to process and begin healing from their disaster experience. We are proud to have sent 4 boxes containing: 202 pencils, 37 boxes of crayons, 23 packs of markers, 37 scissors, 62 glue sticks, 17 sets of water colors and 1 set of acrylic paints. Our congregation is blessed to have great talents and for those who are willing to share them. This year’s VBS would not have been possible without our 58 participants! And, a special thanks to Barb Kreamer and Barb Dupler for their musical expertise and guidance to make this years’ VBS another successful one. Connie Terry VBS Director
